Well let's take an objective look at this one. I will rattle off a few points that immediately come to mind. And to anyone that thinks I maybe biased, please check my previous answers and know that I write sincerely here and not for effect.

So if what you wrote takes place ....Life in Mindanao ends as you presently live it.

1.There will be new members governmebt elected and they begin to attempt to impose certain beliefs as law. (not that they will necessarily believe in democracy as an efficient instrument to effect change longterm, but for now it will have to do)

2. Bars will close down and consumption of alcohol will be frowned upon (not a terrible thing but certainly a byproduct of this type of change)

3. Seeing the change, Filipino and non-Filipino Muslims will flock to Mindanao as a Muslim cultural center. I am not sure what that means for the other cities but a mass migration of muslims to the north does not seem a likely logical result. But Mindanao will become to Muslims what Manila is to Catholics.

4. Many more Muslim police officers will be hired in the area. They will represent a cross section of various religious devotion. Some of them will be regular guys just trying to earn a living and support their families. Some will be students or followers of popular clergy members that believe in a certain interpretation of Islamic law. Will that effect how they settle disputes? Some may have links to Abu Sayef (probably not many, but how many is enough to successfully infiltrate?)

5. Pork sales way down, Lamb sales way up. (neither good nor bad)

6. I'm sure there will be many side-by-side businesses (could be a good thing with more variety and specialty)

7. Will long time ally, the U.S. see it as a threat? Not a threat per se, but they couldn't be happy about it.

8. If Mindanao is lucky it will turn into some of the more successful other Muslim cities in Indonesia and Malaysia. Honest, law abiding Cristians & Muslims in the city will talk to their husbands and wives and comment on how religious the city is getting but not take any steps to make sure it doesn't go too far. (because after all, they don't feel as strongly about it as the people making the changes).

I have said enough...here is the bottom line. I know many will not receive this well but it is the simple truth:

Can any of this really be good for the Phillipines? I mean even for Muslims. What true good for the Nation will come from a change like this? Will the enconomy be bolstered , jobs created and big business be attracted to the area? Will arts and literature thrive? Will there be a sporting rennaisance? Will Mindanao become a center for scence, learning or research?

Probably not. Will your next question be for somone to recommend a good real-estate agent in Manila? Just joking.

Good Luck!

I was under the impression the Muslims had a pretty even to the christians in Mandanao, and in some areas more, if they are so out numbered why the hell don't the christians start killing them because they have been killing christians there for years, robbing them stealing and forcing some to convert to Islam, I have close friends in mandanao and I don't think they lie about it,

Phil as a whole is 85 percent christian. While Abu Sayyaf is considered a dangerous terrorist group, Philippines in general is not considered a threat to the US.
