A monopolist will charge more because their company specializes in something that nobody (or few other companies) offer. Competition is low so the price can basically be whatever they make it. Also selection is low becaus products are spoecialized. An example of a monopolist would be commercial jet manufacturers. There are only 2 main companies in the world that manufacture commercial passenger jets. Boeing, and Air Bus. Therefore the competition is lower allowing them to raise prices.
