My mom is polish and she could not speak english fluently, and i am thinking that they put me in english for a second language program(but i can't speak polish),because i've looked through my records. When i spoke english started speaking with polish dialect)thats what i am guessing. When i became obsessed with it.And my mom beat my alot, dad was working and i never saw him.Could that have anything to do with it.

Your not stupid just traumatized. Two people really close to me got held over because one had bad Asama and both came from immigrant families who did not have more than a 6th grade education nor spoke English. They have always felt bad about being left back. One of them was bullied at school for it. She is now a university professor and the other is a store manager. They over came the bad experience and today they have a lot more education than those who did not get held over. SO DON'T FEEL BAD!

Being retained in first grade is not really considered "failing". It simply means that the teacher and administration felt that you needed to be stronger in skills for the first grade. For most kids at that age, it's a benefit to be retained. I know many kids who were retained because they were not at a level to do well in the next grade. Some were promoted back to the grade with their age peers later in their educational careers because they had an easier time later because of having been retained early on.

I didn't, but you're not the only one who has. You were stupid, some things just take more time to learn. By making sure you got a good handle on it, you did better in second grade and the grades afterwards since the info you learned there built upon items learned in first grade.
