The emotional emphaty generated by certain types of music can be equated to the hypnotic and emotional state that ritual, liturgical, and some tribal music evokes. It is a memory association developed by some people to some situation where strong emotional ties were developed. Similar to phobias created by trauma with some elements or things.

Yes. I've bought a few records that do this to me - the last one was a record by The Used, and I had to walk it back to the merch table (this was a few years ago at Warped Tour) and ask for my money back after reading the lyrics.

It's not good for the mind, really. It's easy to identify with someone whose life sucks, but it's not good for mental, spiritual and emotional growth.

There are some songs, the combination of lyrics and music, which elicites such strong emotions. I personally get choked up every time I hear "The Marine Corps Hymn."

Happens to all of us. There are some songs that make me want to cry (and I actually do) and some that bring out anger in me that I didn't even know I had. That's when you know it's a good song, when it can bring out strong emotions out of you.

yes of course! with songs you frequently listen to, then sort of forget abour or move on from. then hearing that song puts you back in that time you were, that person you were, when you were listening to that song twice a day. I do that all the time; I'm a phase person.

Of course. I get this way every time I hear the song that was played at my Aunt's funeral. "When I get to where I'm going " by Brad Paisley. Music can be very powerful and moving.

songs are really powerful because the composer shares most of his intense emotion while composing that song...felt it everytime i listen to some songs that caught my attention!! (smile)
