"lol. you surprised to see a black man who grew up in an all black neighborhood listening to psychedelic rock and other alternative stuff?"
Nope. Not surprised at all. But glad you asked.
How about the band Love, their album Forever Changes.
Jefferson Airplane, Volunteers of America, Surrealistic Pillow, or After Bathing at Baxters
the Velvet Underground and Nico
The Association, Windy
The Chocolate Watch Band
The Charlatans
Quicksilver Messenger Service

Oh, The Doors! They are the BEST! Psychadelia is what epitomizes their music! The lead singer Jim Morrison (now dead since 1970) has such a haunting voice! The lyrics and sound are so psychadelic! Esp. their songs like "Love Street" and "Summer's Almost Gone" and "The End". Oh, I love it! Even though I wasn't born til 1983, it makes me feel like I remember the '60s whenever I listen to their music! Just look for The Doors on the internet and you could hear some sound clips and you'll see exactly what I mean.

My best experiences have occured when i was listening to tool. Aenima is a great album to listen to or 10,000 days. Give them a shot,. the sounds they have created in their songs really trigger something subconscious and compelling. I promise when your done you wont regret it. i mean just look at the art work on their latest release 10,000 days and tell me you dont want to trip after looking at that. Also for some art work, go to yahoo, click on images, then type in alex grey. this is a good place to star for breathtaking images. I would love feedback if you do do this!
Cheers
