No I do not get annoyed at accents, what is annoying is when you come into a new country and want a different way of life you should a least try to learn the language of that country. and that goes for Americans moving to other countries as well. As far a legal and illegal some people are running from a horrible way of life and need to sneak to another country just to survive.

I do not dislike anyone. I do think illegal aliens should be punished for their crimes, though. Legal immigrants should be commended for coming here and actually going through the legal process. They epitomize what it means to be an American. They have a life goal and they strive to reach that goal through legal channels. Illegal aliens are cheaters and taxpayers pay for it. Oh and, although I will admit I am a little awkward around people who speak other languages, it doesn't really bother me.

No...Why would anyone dislike someone for upholding the law? However their legal status still doesn't determine the person they are on the inside...you could be legal and be a total jerk...And I don't personally mind accents even though I never understand what they are saying anyway...no matter what their first language is....I can hardly understand some American accents.......

Eh, not so much. I like it when they speak English, with or without an accent... I don't like it when they're in a service industry and they cant understand what I'm saying to them. The girls at Wendie's cant get my order correct to save their lives, I think they're Bosnian, or Russian or something. The people who have a problem with immigrants are the lazy ones who are bringing the country down anyways. They cant spend the time to go to college and learn a profession and now they're scared that their jobs are going to be taken by immigrants...

I don't dislike the legal ones. I just don't like the fact that many of them, not all of course, continue with the ways of their culture that made their countries of origin, 3rd world nations.
I base this on my 30 years of experience of living and working with them.
I'm thinking of moving elsewhere to where there are more people of my culture.
I've become disillusioned living in northern New Jersey.
Many immigrants come to this country and settle within enclaves containing people from their own background.
I don't feel it is wrong for me to feel the same.
They are not bad people.
Many are good friends of mine even though they say they've no reason to change.
The U.S. used to be a "melting pot." However, I don't see much 'melting' going on anymore.

who knows! People usually dislike others because of low self esteem, because they have no confidence in themselves, or because they don't have anything better to do. No. I do not become annoyed when I hear an accent. I am more annoyed when I come here and see all of these runon sentences, misspelled words and other grammatical errors written by US citizens who should know better.
And yes. I love accents.
(and thank you Star. Your post was refreshing.)

I moved to the States in 1997. I haven`t noticed any discrimination, but maybe that is because i don`t have a German accent, I hung out with lots of GI`s when I was young....and you know what? I can spell better than 99% of the Americans at my work! How scary.....

Unfortunately most people just assume that any immigrant they come across is automatically illegal.
Immigrants don't bother me, and there is no way to tell by looking at them if they are illegal or not.
Peace
