It is the size of the hard drive and how many songs that the ipod can hold. A 2 gb would give you approx 500 songs and the 4gb would hold about 1000. I personally would go with the 40Gb Video ipod :)

2GB has a smaller capacity, and 4GB has more. It depends on which kind you want to buy for your needs- if you want a LOT of music on your ipod, go for the 4 GB even though its more expensive. Good luck!

The more gb the more songs it holds, or any other kind of memory. (e.g. 1gb=500 songs,2gb=1000,4gb=1500,8gb=2000) p.s. those are ipod nano memory (gb) sizes.

It's the amount of songs it can hold. 2gb is about 500 songs. 4gb is about 1000 songs. I've seen them up to 80gb, which is about 20,000. I don't think i've even heard that many songs. But it won't hurt will it?
