The draft is one of the worst ideas ever. It goes against the very ideals this country was founded on. It's a system where, when the government has a war that they think is worth fighting, then they can order the men to go fight and die. How is that in line with my pursuit of happiness? Someone earlier on here said that the draft is good and that the rich kids should go fight their daddy's wars. Nice, since the draft takes guys who aren't in college or who haven't graduated college first. The draft would just make more poor kids who aren't in college go. So, nice try turning this into a class thing. I've got several friends who are well off, with wealthy parents, and they joined the army.
Misc. 18-20 year olds can get drafted and die, but they aren't allowed to consume alcohol. No one can do illegal drugs because it's not healthy for you. Like war is healthy for you.

Well I think if they are going to have a draft they should send all the illegals,after all they say they are the ones doing jobs no other Americans want.

Its an interesting talking point. Its meant to get us to ask ourselves if it were our sons and daughters, instead of someone elses, would we still be sticking to the stay the course mantra. But, Jenna and Barbara are safe, its not gonna happen. Its too unpopular, as is this war, and not even a Republican would dare vote for it. I am amused at the 'fair weather patriots' who have called the Dems surrender monkeys, who get all upset at the thought of a universal draft, which would mean that they would have to find a new place to keep their well off kids safe and out of the service, just like they did last time.

Conservative Republican for a draft. Our men are over burdened. I support a draft for anyone from the age of 18-42, men and women, no exemptions, no deferments, unless the person is 100% disabled. Then it depends on the disability. Some disabled people could perform support services.

They only proposed it because they know it will never happen, they just want people to believe they have some plan of some sort, I don't know what it could be, haven't herd of ANY. I know Polosi wants to grant people who break the law, amnesty.

I don't believe in drafting, if someone wants to go let them, what they really need to do is stop governments running countries then there won't be wars because people won't be sticking their noses in other peoples businesses

Only if they prosecute those who dodge it severly otherwise most liberal minded people will just not show up.
Of course scraping the bottom of the barrel would make our military worthless....with worthless people.
