Why are people down south so much more critical of interracial couples than the Midwest?

I grew up in Wisconsin, but have lived 20 years in the south. I can't compare the south to the northeast or the west, only to the midwest...but when I first moved south I use to think people in the south were more racist than folks up north in the midwest. But then I started thinking about how Native American Indians were treated in Wisconsin, and it sucked. So as far as Wisconsin goes, other than in Milwaukee and a bit of Madison, what other races does an average person living in Wisconsin encounter at work, play, at home? I wasn't around anyone non-white for over 10 years in Wisconsin (I was stuck in tiny towns my parents wanted to live in...ugh).

I think the reason the south gets such a bad rap about anything to do with race is because there's so many more people of different colors actually working, living, and playing around and with each other. I've always worked and often lived and spent time where all sorts of people hang out. There's still areas that different races don't mix, there's still racism, the klan and skinheads are still around, but I think where there's more mixing of races, there's more to make ignorant people uncomfortable, so that's why they act out more here.

In Wisconsin, I remember we had white supremist para-military groups in the 70's hanging out in the woods...ignorance is everywhere, not just in the south. I think midwesterners react differently to stuff that makes them uncomfortable, too-they don't say as much about what bothers them, whereas in the south, good luck keeping these folks quiet about good or bad!

Look at the history. A couple hundred years ago, black people in the south were kept as slaves. In the north, they were free. Then the civil war happened, and the south lost and slaves were freed. A lot of hard feelings came from this and the hatred persists to this day.

I honestly think that people are just ignorant, its bad whereever you go. Love isn't based on skin colors, some people just can't figure that out. Love shouldn't be restricted to the same race although some people think so.

Midwestern women are usually pretty stupid and not as pretty as Southern women for the most part. Most women who do go interracial are just our "leftovers" anyway. They are usually too fat, ugly or dumb for white guys and deserve to get treated like dirt from the thugs they hook up with.

The north has always treated the South like a colony. We can live without them. They cannot live with out us. That a$$clown Lincoln even said so. That being said; we don't need Yankee morality, ours is fine and works much better. Keep drugs, crime and AIDS among yourselves. If your women want to degrade their bloodlines they are welcome to do so. Don't criticize us for not wanting to degrade ourselves and our gene pool.

That's because they are still fighting the civil war down there,they don't even like white northerners.

Slavery. Its a double edged sword cause they also have the most in common with blacks than other regions.
