which metallica album would you suggest ppl listen to and what is one that you are strongly advise somebody not to listen to

I would suggest that, as an introduction to Metallica, that a person listen to the "Black Album" first. The listener could get a good sample of Metallica's basic sound, and decide if they'd like something harder or lighter. If they were interested in a harder sound, I'd suggest the earlier albums (Kill Em All, Ride the Lightning). If they were interested in something lighter, I'd suggest some of the newer albums (Load and Reload) which have a more contemporary sound. I wouldn't suggest "St Anger" as a starter or really at all, I don't think that it was of the quality fans have grown to expect from Metallica. I also wouldn't suggest "S&M", because its definitely got a different sound and I think you've got to be a real fan to enjoy it!

People listen to self title album "Metallica" It's when they made their big claim to fame with this album. If you want to take a step back. listen to "Ride the Lighting" Another great earlier album. I actually listen to their older songs more like from Ride the Lighting"
I haven't heard anything good about St. Anger. their latest album.

My favorite it's Ride the Lightning. It's awesome. I love every single song. The album that disappointed me and i really can't understand it and listen to it it's St. Anger.

1st you gotta listen to ´´Black album´´, (This record made me love Heavy Metal!),
then ´´Ride the lightning´´,
after that ´´Master of puppets´´. (Their masterpiece)
Then ´´And justice for all´´.
After all you should listen to ´´Kill ém all´´, ´´Reload´´, ´´Load & their other records.
I hardly suggest, Don´t listen to ´´St.Anger´´ !
´Cause it´ll make you hate Metallica!

I would start off with Metallica S&M. It is the closest thing to a greatest hits album. It has a wide range of music from them and the whole concept of Metal + Symphony is cool. They havent released a greatest hits album to this point.

Forget all these jokers ... listen to 'fade to black' it is one of the best songs of all time.

I agree. The S&M albulm is absulutely awesome, with its songs remixed with the symphony.
As for an albulm NOT to listen to...well....can't think of one.
