OK if Jane Smith had been the European Marathon Champion and World Marathon Champion, would she have had the same abusive remarks?
Zara gets no special privalleges, she doesn't do a different dressage test, she doesn't compete over a smaller course and she doesn't jump lower jumps in the show jumping section!
I would like to see someone take a top dressage horse and get the same result, without putting in hours of hard work!
Her achievement got very little main press coverage and show jumping/dressage and cross country get mimimal coverage on mainstream tv now, so not surprise some people don't realise just what an achievement it is to win BOTH the European and World Championship, and this is one sport were both MEN and WOMEN compete against each other.
oh and PS
it was a PUBLIC vote, so you could have voted for some other sportsperson....did you?

I am not British.
Second, I have been horseriding myself since childhood. I can assure you it is not as easy as it looks. It is a dangerous and difficult sport, especially dressage. You need to work bloody hard to get you and your horse in tiptop shape. What she achieved has got nothing to do with being royal and privileged: she got her medals because she worked hard for it.
Third, if you read good papers you would have heard about her and her other achievements before this.
Fourth, you'll be surprised how many Brits actually compete in equestrian sports, even if on an amateur level.
Fifth, careful who you are calling "german scum". I recently read that actually the British people are German in origin (except for the immigrants), according to genealogical research.

How insulting you are!!! Zara retained her European championship & won a world championship, which is a major achievement in any sport. Three day eventing is a world wide sport with its European & world championships. Zara was competing against the best in the world & she won. She is a great prospect for the Olympics in two years time. I am not British, by the way, so I have no particular brief for the royal family. I simply admire Zara as a talented rider. Have you considered that being a member of the royal family might actually be a handicap to Zara in her sport? She has to earn her place on the British team like everybody else & she has that much more to prove to people like you. I say 'Congratulations, Zara; good luck in Bejing in 2008.

they are all marvelous of their chosen activities. As already replied she gained gold. It substitute right into a shame they did'nt provide the female bicycle proprietor the comparable air time as various the others, she gained the excursion de France. It substitute right into a public vote. happy there have been no filled up footballers, yet we dont have too many British gamers any further. Theo did'nt seem very inspired together with his award.

Was a little surprised myself.
She is a good rider an has done well this year doing something no other rider has done.
But its hardly been headline news,
I don't think she should have won, but then again why not, she's done something unique.
You do know that the royal family don't get revenue from the licence?? your just bitter huh?
Don't let the crown get you down.
Would you really just want Blair to represent this country?

She is the European and World champion equestrian. How many other of our sportsmen and women have achieved World and European championships, in their field, this year?
Have your respondents ever sat on a horse, let alone taken it through the toughest challenges in the sport?
She has brought that horse up to helping her win since 1999, it wasn't purchased for her last week!

This was such a p1zz poor year for sport they should have abandoned the whole sorry show. The gymnast should have won, having said that.
Phillips grew up with a huge stable to choose from and no other commitment. It's not like she had to scrimp for riding lessons. The golfer is riding on the wave of a businessman / sympathy vote and no other b8gger deserved a mention.
I've said it already, but I dont care....Tweddle wuz robbed.

Good for her.
It's not as though there was much choice.
Freddie Flintoff has done nothing this year, footballers are more concerned about their salary than playing well, snooker players are dull, and the gymnasts are all leotard clad epileptics.
