if it is in a safe neaborhood then sure, why not? my parents used to let me do it all the time. it was fun and got me out side to enjoy nature and the stars. I still love going out to view the stars and hear the sounds of nature. of corse dont let him do it alone, I did it with my brother who is 2 years older than I. also provide him with a key or some way to get in the house if some thing goes wrong.

It depends on the situation. Consider these things:
1) Are you in a safe neighborhood?
2) Is anybody going to be with him? Can you trust that person?
3) Is your backyard fenced in?
4) How responsible is your son?
Use your instinct. Consider everything. Why does he want to sleep outside???? If he just wants a camping experience and you don't feel comfortable, say no, but promise a nice camping trip soon! But...if you think he's just looking for an excuse to get out of the house and possibly sneak out...say no or keep an eye on him. =]
Basically, do you trust him? And do you trust the people around you?

Well, it depends on many things. Do you live in a safe neighborhood? Also, do you trust him? Is he asking to go camping as an excuse to slip out at night without you noticing? How about for the first night, you sleep with him? It might be fun to do a family camping night together in the backyard.
In all parenting matters, I would trust your innermost instinct. I bet you know already what the right decision would be.

Not by himself. But if he was with friends, then yes. As long as y ou live in a "safe" neighborhood. When I was little, my parents used to let me and my friends stay in our backyard. Just give him a cellphone to call you if there's any problems.

Yeah... assuming he is not the kind of boy who would sneak out half way through the night?
At age 13 you need to start acting like you trust him a little. Teens like to think they are trusted.

Depends on the safety of the neighbourhood, your son's character, his friends, and your own personal house rules-might want to supply him with a cell phone for security.

I agree with everyone except for the few that say you shouldn't let him. Life is to short let him be a kid he wont always be asking to do such an Innocent thing.
