Each other the other three of the UK countries issue their own, why not Wales?

The reason why Wales does not issue its own banknotes is because for monetary and legal purposes, Wales is included with England. Wales has English money and English Law, but that's just about where it ends. The Welsh think and behave quite differently from the English and are not related to them in race. Its a history thing.

The Royal Mint is actually located in Wales - its where the coins are made. The banknotes of the Bank of England are made by the Royal Mint at their site in Essex.

If you look at your coin chance, you may occasionally come across a Welsh one pound coin, it has a Welsh leek on the reverse side. Other coins also and Welsh words on the side of the coin(s).

Although for sporting purposes Wales is usually counted as a country, that is, the Welsh Rugby etc. In real terms Wales is a Principality. Wales does not have a parliament, it has an assembly, rather on the lines of the Greater London Assembly but with a lot more power.

I'm not sure that the Welsh actually want independence from England. As my late father often said, "the English pay the bills, may as well stick with them." He was right about that. There are only about 3 million people in Wales and probably twice that number of sheep, cows and pigs.

You'll have to go to Wales on a holiday to find out more and just how different it is.

In addition to the Welsh in Wales, there are about half a million Welsh in London, where I live and the same number of Welsh in the USA. Not a big nation then!

The other thing about the Welsh is that they usually just blend in to the general population so that you may be quite unaware that a person is Welsh.

You can see the Welsh Assembly on the BBC Parliament channel. Don't worry, its not all in Welsh. Business is usually conducted in the traditional bi-lingual manner, so that some speakers prefer to speak in Welsh and others in English. When someone speaks in Welsh, you get a voiceover translation in English.

I'm guessing its cos of the problems it will cause its a lot easier to continue to use the English pound many welsh didn't even see the point of the semi independence they now have. There is most likely members of the welsh Parliament that want it but I'm guessing the majority isn't interested.
