I have had a lot of rodents in my time. I am not a professional, but all of mine have lived to a ripe old age. First of all, hamsters are very lazy creatures. They sleep 80% of the time. The thing with it is, they are nocturnal....which means, she is probably awake and moving about a lot at night, while you sleep. As far as biting the bottle...perhaps she is having teeth pain. Do you have nibble sticks or some form of teeth toy. They have teeth that grow constantly. They have to have something to trim their teeth on. The can get impactions and tooth problems if they don't have something hard like that to chew. Maybe she is just trying to grind her teeth down on her bottle. I would buy her some wooden hamster sticks or now Walmart makes those edible animal huts that they can chew on as they need it...I think they are like $6. Seriously, just make sure her teeth are not too long. This can cause her to stop eating and pain. Try that and don't worry about it sleeping so much. As long as it is DRINKING WATER and eating food....you don't have much to worry about, if you get the teeth toy. Good luck!

Hamsters are nocturnal, meaning they are awake at night and sleep during the day. Make sure that your cage is large enough (at least something about the size of a 10 gallon fish tank) and that she has plenty of stimulation, like an exercise wheel, tubes to crawl through (toilet paper or paper towel cardboard tubes are great because they like to chew too). They also make hamster treats that take a while to chew through or eat, so something like that would be good to keep her entertained.

Hamster are nocturnal. When you wake them up during the day they may be very grumpy and bite. Try waking them slowly. allow them to come to you with special treat. Sometimes they will adjust their schedule to yours but usually not with hamsters.

Most rodents are not nocturnal as someone else suggested. Gerbils for one, are active during the day.

It may have been used to a different type of water bottle before that required a type of biting to get the water. Give it time to learn. I think your hamster is probably fine, just be patient.

She might just be bored. Does she have an exercise wheel available, and does she spend quality time outside of her cage? If she's always in her cage, with little to no stimulation, she will resort to sleeping and chewing on the bars (if in a wire cage), or on their water bottles (I recommend glass bottles, to prevent spending money on replacing plastic bottles chewed up). If you think she'd accept it, maybe get her another female of the same breed of hamster, to keep her company.

Hamsters and other rodents are nocturnal, meaning they sleep during the day and are active at night. Usually they will run on their wheel during the night, so get a non-squeaking kind.
If you want a pet that does not sleep during the day, birds are fun:)

Thats weird cuz my hamster did the same thing....
I'm pretty sure they do that when they feel insecure about their surroundings or as people have already said, they get bored.
Mine stopped doing that about a month or two after I got him, and he didnt do it anymore before he died.

take her to the vet if you're concerned

but to me it seems as if she is bored to death

give her more things to do
take her out of her cage and play with her
give her toys
you also can change up her living environment for more mental stimulation.
