reviewed again say 3 months after the initial results were read without the request of the patient? The reason I ask is that I had a mammogram to check some trouble in August. The results were clear but over the weekend I returned home to a message from the doctor's nurse saying it is very important I contact them. I can't do so till morning, so I was just wondering, what is the likelihood the films were misread the first time? and possibly reviewed and rediagnosed later?

I don't know if it matters or not, but I am only 30 and this was my first mammogram.

I would also agree that this probably has nothing to do with a three month old mammo. Sometimes, we do "double reads". This means that when we have a visiting radiologist working with us, we will pull some old exams (usually around 40 mammos) for the new radiologist to read. The new rad will read the study without the benefit of the original radiologist's report. I cannot ever remember the new rad. finding something scary that the orginial rad missed.

There is always a possibility the mammo tach did not get enough tissue viewed and must be retaken. which they can see and redo immediately. Three months after an initial mammo seems a long time to be called . They are read within a day or 2 if anything is abnormal they usually notify you right away, The call may have nothig to do with the mammogram. Have you had any blood work or other tests done since then?
By the way does your mammogram facility send you reports also along to your doctor?
Good luck Let us know how you makeout!!

I just wanted to say good luck, there really is nothing any of us should offer as only that Doctors office knows what they called you about, is it possible that it may have nothing to do with the mammogram you had in August! It is very unusual for them to review something that far back and find an error!

Sounds like a money racket....
Most mammograms are very unnessecery,
The doc wants all the money.
If u aint in severe pain tell the doc that called u will get a second opinion somewhere else and dont even go there.

I also hope everything turns well for you. Mammograms, like all other investigations, could be performed in a wrongful way, or misinterpreted. but there is nothing to fear, i think, because the odds of having something unpleasant at your age are weak. expect, maybe , some other news, hopfully good ones.
