I am an esthetician, and have noticed that yes, the hemmeroid cream thing really does work. IT works by skrinking the blood vessels unter the skin, reducing the darkness. Use preperation H. Dab a little on under your eyes before bed-but be VERY careful- do NOT get it IN your eyes. it stings like a (bad word).
Don't try to put makeup on top of it, use it before bed- makeup will just slide right off of it if you try to use the prep H under concealer. good luck, I have the same problem- I'm sure mine is just from lack of sleep with a 4 yr old!

There are a few home remedies you can try to get rid of dark circles.
Slices of cucumber applied to the eyes can actually help reduce the appearance of dark circles.
Vitamin E creams work for some people.
An Indian (from India) remedy is to make a paste of 1 tsp tomato juice, 3-4 drops of lemon juice, a pinch of turmeric powder, and
enough white flour to make a paste. Mash these ingredients together into a medium-thick paste and dab it under your eyes. After fifteen minutes, wash the paste away. This should lighten the dark circles and address puffiness to some degree.
Used tea bags work for some people. Leave the tea bag in place for about 10 minutes. Make sure the tea bag is not too wet.
A cold washcloth may help.
Drink more water and stay out of the sun. Be checked for allergies. sometimes allergies can cause the dark circles.
