LOL! I was wondering if I was the only one who was interested in this topic because when I was young I was obsessed transformation. To be more specific, I was obsessed with the fictitious idea where someone can turn into someone or something else and turn back.

By the by, to be more specific, I was interested mostly in people turning into another form of person and change physical aspects of themselves...

Also, does anyone know where this idea originated?

Ah yes, physical shapeshifting, p-shifting for short, is a very controversial thing in the werecreature world. My friends and I have been working on a theory of how one would be able to do so.

"Cellular Manipulation"

In this theory, a were would send out signals from the brain down the
nerves and to the RNA, which a copy of the DNA sent out to all the
cells in the body. The RNA is transformed to that of a were's
phenotype. The information on the animals DNA is stored in the
subconsious since that is where the wereside resides. (The animal
side is part of your soul, but the soul would have a direct influence
on the mind) The RNA is converted and sent out to all the cells along
with the orders to kill off all the cells with different coding of
DNA than the type sent out while at the same time rapidly reproducing
that of its own kind. Now while this is all going on, the were is
concentrating everything on the form of the phenotype. This is the
painful part. Once the order is sent out, the were's focus is no
longer needed and the body takes its course. The cells follow their
command as the were suffers the agony of all these bodily changes. If
the pain becomes to much for the mind to handle, the brain shuts down
the consious body and the subconsious takes over. Once the pain
returns to levels tolerable by the consious mind, it takes over,
unless the pain was so intolerable that as a safe guard, the brain
will not allow the consious side to take back control until bodily
functions return to normal.

There you have it, cellular manipulation. Please note that it is a
work in progress. We have yet to find a power source to fuel the
shift. Besides that, we have the theory all put together, at least
for a possible theory.
