I know that his reason for making "The Passion of the Christ" was to stir up hatred of Jews. But I saw "Apocolypto" today and I wonder why he made this movie. Since the film featured bloody human sacrifice scenes and then at the end the Spanish showed up, was his point to say that it's a good thing the Spanish came and brought their Catholicism to these "barbarians"?

Maybe he's trying to make up for what happened with the hatred of Jews that stirred up? Now he's attacking the Natives of Mexico and South America? I read on Friday that he is trying to save his career with the movie Apocalypto, but who knows?

Okay, let's get over this whole Passion and bashing the Jews already. Let us please remember everthing Gibson does is usually perfected in only a way that he could do it. I have not seen Apcoplypto yet however, I plan to because when I go to see a film directed by Gibson I know I get the best the man can put on screen. He is one of the few directors that can honestly direct an epic and keep the accuracy of the film.
I honestly never gave the whole Catholicism thing a thought, if that is the case...may I suggest 1492 and what Columbus did to the people of San Salvador. That theme has been done already.

Mel Gibson's Apocalypto is a masterpiece. I saw it today and loved it! This film is the best I have seen all year and deserves Oscar nominations. According to Wikipedia, "The movie is partially intended as a political allegory about civilizations in decline. Said Gibson in September of 2006: '"The precursors to a civilization that’s going under are the same, time and time again... What’s human sacrifice if not sending guys off to Iraq for no reason?'" I think the directing, cinematography, and the actors are superb! Kudos to Mel Gibson and the cast, who was made up of unknown Mexican actors, Native Americans from the U.S. and Canada, and locals from Veracruz, Mexico. Brilliant film making!

PLEASE be kidding! Passion was not made to bash any race. Media most likely misconstrued the context of a brilliant man that had a few drinks. The jew are the chosen people of God, therefore, they face persecution through history. Do you think a papparatzi person would care either way??
Indigenious peoples histories were not written by indigenious peoples.
And excuse me, but WE are not "barbarians", and we did not need the Spanish "Black Robe" catholics to bring knowledge of God. Most of our histories are oral, passed down by storytellers, and yes, they differ from the ones you most likely skimmed through in school, since it doesn't seem like you've got it all together in your point of view.
Apocolypto was a excellent movie; love conquers all, makes the sun and the moon collide, makes men excel and survive all odds to save and protect family. Rudy Youngblood, a Comanche/Cree American Indian did an excellent job portraying a man with this purpose...
I hope Rudy Youngblood and Mel Gibson both make tons of money.

First, Passion was not meant to be anti-Semitic. If you look at history, and watch the movie with an open mind, you will see that the Jews acted out of fear. They were scared that Rome would crush them, rather than just continue to occupy their country.

As far as Mel's reason for making Apocalypto, there's but one answer: He did it for the money.

The first line of the movie explains the ending. The point is that a few Spanish couldn't have destroyed the Mayans if their own excesses hadn't already destroyed them from the inside.

It is also a warning to our own society.

The best movie I've seen in a LONG time.

Mel Gibson is a talented director, writer and actor. Apocalypto is his best so far. I believe he just wanted the world to see how the Mayans truly lived and what they believed in.
I hope he wins a lot of Oscar's on this one and not to mention the cast; EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!
