If you want SAG vouchers, be friendly with the first or second assistant director, whoever is in charge of union extras, but dont get in the way of their work. Always do exactly as asked, and do not under any circumstances cause any problems. I would think long and hard before you join SAG though even after youre SAG-eligible. Just be sure its time. The 3 days or 3 jobs under union contract is true(you get a voucher after each day), but I think the networking and what you can learn on the set is more important. Union membership will come, just dont push it and do whatever you can to help your career and you will be fine. If you get pushy with people while pursuing union membership you can get blacklisted altogether, so this is really a double edged sword. Just make sure it is to the benefit of both you and who you are working for. Also, do what you can to make yourself stand out by helping people and you may get a "bump" to a union contract for a line they have you say. In the end, your reputation will be remembered from job to job, so that will help you get your union membership.

- You can join SAG if you're hired on a SAG contract TV show or film with lines.
-You can join SAG if you are hired as a principal in a SAG contract commercial. In commercials, to be a principal you don't need a line, your face just has to be recognizable. That's why if you are going to do extra work, commercial extra work is the best... you can join SAG if you work 3 extra jobs under a SAG contract.

You need three referrals from jobs that have speaking rolls. Backgroud work gets you the access. Keep showing up and doing what you are told to do.
