There are many colleges with good elementary education programs. A few strategies:
1. Ask the human resources office of a large school district in your area which colleges seem to produce the best job candidates.
2. Ask elementary teachers in your area whether or not they were happy with their program.
3. Look for a program with national accreditation for teacher edcation (NCATE) and national recognition for elementary education (ACEI)
4. Look for a program that will get you lots of field experience starting early on (not just throwing you into student teaching). Many send you out starting as a freshman now. Hopefully there will be a combination of field experiences to include urban and diverse schools as well.
5. Look at conceptual framework for the education program an see if it sounds like something that is a good match for you.
6. Look at the general things that matter- class size, number of classes being taught by full-time faculty (not relying too much on part-timers), etc.
Good luck. I'm sure you'll find several good programs to choose from.

There are MANY GREAT educational institutions for becoming elementary certified in Michigan. To begin with think about the class size that you have become accustomed to in high school classes. Then check the average class size and number of graduates per year (online). If you want a large school where you will never be known by faculty members choose a school like Michigan State University. If not, then begin looking for what you want. Make certain that they have a Masters Degree offered because it will be necessary for you to get a Masters Degree before you begin teaching in Michigan (from what I have been told). Have a great holiday!!

I can't tell you the name of a specific college, since I'm not from Michigan, but I can tell you what to look for to find a good quality program.
In my experience, the most valuable part of college if you're preparing to be a teacher is the field work--actual classroom experience. I'd look for a college that gets you in the elementary classroom early and often. Also, if you want to teach in an urban area eventually, you probably want to attend college in an urban area to provide you the experience you need.
Hope that helps!

To be honest with you? Any Accredited University can offer a solid Elementary Education curriculum. It comes down to you and your drive and commitment.
I'd choose a State School because they are affordable and make the very best of the situation. With No Child Left behind, you have to get an M.Ed. I'd say that you save some money and focus on teaching strategies.

Try looking at college magazines and books. There is a book you can get in the education section of barnes and nobles (and others I'm sure) that has different degrees and the top schools to get those degrees. Try doing that.
