I am making gift baskets this year for my family. for my sister in law and her husband, I am going to put a bottle of wine, cheese, crackers, grapes, a romance DVD burned on the computer, a couple of candles, and a coupon to babysit.
For the folks, a breakfast basket--homemade bread, homemade honey butter, a small bag of coffee from the local shop, homemade hot chocolate mix in a pretty jar, and some stir sticks made from candy canes dipped in chocolate.
You could do a beauty treatment basket, too, with homemade bath salt scrub (salt, a little olive oil, and fragrance or essential oil), some pretty lotions or soaps, a loofah, etc. and a candle.
Anything that comes from the heart will be appreciated!!
Just google "frugal gifts" and you will find web sites with lots of ideas!

My wife and I have taken to making gifts every year for our in-laws. It started because we were both (independently) strapped college students, and has just evolved into tradition at this point. My wife makes candies and baked goods, stuffs them into decorative tins or mugs and does them up real nice. I've done something similar. One year I found some really nice bottles and filled one with Italian-style herbs (oregano, basil, garlic, peppers, ect.) and some extra virgin olive oil, and the other with some dried apricots and raspberries covered in vinegar. Another year I made my own chili powder and barbeque dry rub mix. The important thing was the hand-made nature and that it's obvious you care about what to make and whom you're giving it to. The most expensive part is usually the glass containers (usually $1-8.) Ingredients are usually no more then $5-20, depending on how much, and what, you're making. Just come up with a really snappy, funny label (we just make ours on the printer) and watch them love the gift.
Have fun!

DVD's are expensive one minute; cheap, the next. So, she'll really not know whether they were cheap or not. (Heck, it shouldn't matter if it's the type of stuff she likes.)
OK, as far as things you can make, how about baked goods? How about candies? (Personally, I prefer stuff I can eat and be done with, instead of kicking some manufactured good around for the next twent years, tripping over it, etc.!!! In fact, my "rule" is "If I can't eat it or wear it, I don't want it!!!!!") How about stockings with goodies she might need, say, skin care items, cosmetics, and so forth, besides edible goodies. Perhaps the latter would be better placed in a fruit basket. Also, some people just go nuts over soaps and scented candles. (I hope this helps.)

My daughter is decorating a photo album for her friend.I bet your Mom won't care what you give her. My daughter is 31 and my favorite all time gift from her was when she was little and wrapped me up an old coke can and a nickel. These are gifts from the heart that Mom's love best.

There's all kinds of things you can do:
• Frame a special photo of the two of you.
• Write her a poem telling her what she means to you
• Bake her a batch of cookies using her favorite flavor or favorite candy bar cut up into pieces.
• Make her a memory book or personalized stationery.
• Make her a charm bracelet using charms and chain bought from a craft store or handmade from polymer clay.
