Well I'm there! lol Hopefully your mom will want to help herself feel better thus helping others around her. Talk to her about going to her doctor and discussing her options with her. There are ways for her to feel alot better she just needs a little help with deciding which are right for her and her body. Good luck.

Carole is right - start looking into a good progesterone cream.
Pick up a book called "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause" by Dr. John Lee. He explains in simple language what is happening with your mom's hormones. You can also read some articles at his website http://www.johnleemd.com
Be sure you follow Dr. Lee's suggestions for finding a QUALITY progesterone cream. There are dozens on the market that are no more than glorified lotion, and are just a waste of money. Here is the one I use: http://www.ineways.com/shana

The biggest problem with menopause is the loss of Progesterone in the system. Progesterone is the hormone that makes us happy and cleans out the old estrogen to complete the cycle. Wild Yam cream is a miracle for menopause sufferers - here's a great link:

This stuff rocks. My mom has had virtually no menopause symptoms at 55.
Peace!
PS - I just have to say that so many people think that more estrogen is the solution. It is not. The estrogen gets clogged and makes things worse without the progesterone to clean it out - the estrogen is meant to be replaced, not stacked and pack in our bodies. Soy is very estrogenic.

The best thing for her to do is to make and appointment with her physician, who can do a thorough exam and see how she is coming along. Along with this, she can discuss her problems with it, which could be mood, hot flashes, fatigue, and other common problems. This is the first step handling any discomfort she may be having. There are many things available to help different symptoms; some are more or less appropriate depending upon her family and personal history. There is no one thing that is recommended, and it can be dangerous to treat it so. This includes black cohosh and soy, which although natural, are still phytoestrogens.

Yes, be even more nice to her than you usually are. Make her dinner once in a while, clean up the kitchen, wash her car. Do some things that will make her life a little less hectic. Your mom is blessed to have a child that thinks about her like this.

Menopause can last for years. She should take a Soy vitamin like EstroSoy (get it from a health food store). Its supposed to help w/the hot flashes. There may be hot flashes, cold flashes, headaches, migraines, fatigue, irritability, pain, etc. She should talk to her dr. Usually meds are a last resort, but if she's having that hard a time, the dr. may decide she needs something extra. The only thing you can do is be nice to her. For the next 10 years!

Stay out of her way. Could take a few years. My mother went through it for literally years. It was hell! Come to think of it - I think she is still in it twenty years later.
