Why do most people think that Muslims are terrorists?

I’m a Muslim and in my religion, if someone killed or even harmed another person or even an animal it is considered a huge fault. And that killer might end up in hell. And I feel that after any terrorist’s attacks, the first people who got the blame are the Muslims! Even before investigations! Why is that keeps happening? I want you all to know the truth that, to be a Muslim, you should love and respect all our peaceful brothers from all the other religions. And that is what most of us are doing and the rest are not considered Muslims. And after all that, we and our children are being killed in Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq... Not because we are terrorists, it is all because we are Muslims. Please tell me what you think?
By the way, Islam in Arabic is taken from the word “salam” which means peace.

I told you that I am a Muslim and I know that all my family, friends, teachers and people in my neighborhood are peaceful and they ALL agree that killing is wrong and it is not the solution for peace. And more importantly our prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, NEVER harmed a THING… NEVER… I know the history of my religion and I know that Prophet Muhammad is as the rest prophets and messengers sent from god never did a mistake… I even can’t believe that people might think that Muhammad is murderer! Wasn’t he sent by god? Isn’t he a prophet? Then how come he is a murderer?
And I’m sorry; I have to say that, I can’t see how we are the terrorists?? All the KILLINGS are in our countries… Was it necessary to make the WAR on Lebanon and Iraq? What on earth did the children died in those wars do wrong?
All I can say for now is that the world now is turning to a very terrible place… and it is not because of muslims...

At the beginning, I didn't think that all Muslims are terrorists because that is a stupid generalization that no educated guy could say. But I was shocked when I was reading the answers. I found that about 70% of the answers said the Muslims are terrorists! I think that Islam is exactly like all other religions and it even has a very beautiful history. I know a lot about Islam and I know that Muhammad and Muslims NEVER killed a peaceful person. And everyone knows that this is true. In Iraq, I saw in the news that the American soldiers were entering homes and kill all the men then they sometimes rape the women in front of their children. And when a Muslim tries to PROTECT himself in his COUNTRY by killing an American solider sitting in his HOME, All THE WORLD STOPS AND POINTS TO HIM SAYING HE IS A TERRORIST!!!
This is really sad because we are living in a cruel world. And the people who claim that they are fighting terrorists are the real terrorists.

I don't know the percentages, but I believe the majority know that not all Muslims are terrorists. According to what I have read and heard, fully 10-12% are radicalized Muslims. At that percentage, figure 12-17 million radical Muslims embedded worldwide, many in western nations. Should America pull out from Iraq before it is time, I predict Iran moving into Iraq and attacking Israel. America will have to go back to the ME in greater numbers, leaving our nation unguarded and weakened even further. That would be the prime moment for the radical faction of the Muslim religion to make a move.

My personal opinion is that it is true that not all Muslim people are terrorists. But with the exception of 2 or 3, thus far, all terrorist attacks have been planned and carried out by the radical faction Muslims. Based on that, can you understand why there is suspicion? It is not meant as an affront to your religion, but what I see with my eyes and hear with my ears tells me that these lunatics do not wish to live alongside any other people of differing faith. They want total conversion to their perversion of the Muslim faith or choose death.

Solution: More peaceful Muslims must speak out in a louder voice and offer their aid to those countries in danger from the factional arm that wishes harm to western civilization.

Most americans think that muslims are terrorists because that is the only time we see them. Most americans dont have muslim friends and the only place we see or hear about them is on the news, and their only on the news because they have done something bad.

To be fair though, how should americans look at muslims? They are the only religous demonination commiting terrorist attacks on america, and the leaders of the muslim world have made it pretty clear that their not big fans of the united states.

I think it is totally unfair to say that in palestine, lebabon and iraq only muslims are being killed because its unfortunate when women and children are killed in war, but it's even worse when the terroists hide behind them and amongst them.

Recently even with the popes comments about it being a violent religon(which I dont believe it is). but first thing we hear on the news is that a muslim man has killed a nun. What kind of example is it that your showing everyone. Its like claiming "were not violent" and then you go and kill someone. it makes no prgress.

I used to think all muslims were terrorists, but then we got a new kid in are school from pakistan and i got to know him. he and his family are all muslims and they are some of the nicest most respectful people I know.

Not all muslims are terrorists, but when a terrorist attack is committed in the name of islam, it's pretty hard to make progress.

terrorist IS NOT most effective muslims. This makes me very irritated whilst i listen this. How approximately the Schools of the Americas? Are they no longer terrorists? They kill blameless humans of their and different international locations. Muslims aren't all terrorists. There are many others. Just given that anybody has olive coloured dermis, darkish hair and eyes, have an entire grown beard and feature a reputation like hussein or mohammed DOES no longer imply that they're a terrorist. Get over those assumptions and consider approximately it. If anybody is an extremist and kills humans for no obvious motive then sure they're a terrorist. I dont care if they're asian, american, hispanic, black, white... IF THEY KILL FOR THE SAKE OF NOTHING THEY ARE A TERRORIST... no longer given that they're muslim.

When the Japanese bombed pearl harbor most Americans including FDR labeled all Japanese as enemies of the US or enemy sympathizers. The same thing happened right after 9/11 in the US only this time the US didn't throw all American Muslims into internment camps like FDR did to the Japanese during right after Pearl Harbor. So in a way Muslims have it much better in the US. That doesn't mean people still don't hate Muslims but their a little more civilized about it now.

Unfortunately for you and the majority of Muslims who are peaceful, the majority of the world's terrorists ARE Muslims who have bastardized the teachings of Mohammed to make them agree with violent behavior. A few bad apples spoils the whole barrel. Most terrorists are Muslims.... although most Muslims are not terrorists. Simple math.

Most people do not think muslims are terrorists only those that call themselves such. Actions speak louder than words, if a person is a terrorist and claims to follow "Allah" What do you think the person around him/her would think? (They would link the persons religion with what they claim to be. people who believe in a religion should live a life emulating that religion. (Not all may agree with this conclusion)

I grew up in a muslim controlled state and there are some muslims who take your side and some muslims who disagree with you, (just like in any other religion) It just happens to be unfortunate that there are innocent muslims being punished for the crimes of other muslims.

Because most media attention is paid to the fundamentalist extremists who claim this as their religion as well.

Their different interpretation, and actions have a significant impact on those who are lumped into the same group - rightly or wrongly.

The fact is people look for similarities, and when these extremists say they are having a 'holy war' or using religion as part of the motivation behind what they are doing, it is then associated with the negative.

Just like a bad experience - when something bad happens, you'll tell 10 people, when something good happens, you'll tell one.

Hence why we hear so much bad.

More Muslims like you should be dedicated to denouncing the extremist ways...when the only thing that people see and read is the propaganda that the extremist spew....Its easy to believe it...even though its not directed at Americans....Also just about every terrorist we hear about describes themselves as Muslim....so in the absence of any other information...uninformed people will believe it.

Only an ignorant racist person would think that ALL Muslims are terrorist. I know that only a very small percentage of Muslims are radical religious extremist Muslims who are terrorist. There have always been problems between Muslims and Christians such as the Crusades. Its ignorant and pointless hating on other religions. Plus everyone thinks that their religion is the right one and that everyone elses is wrong.
