He's saying to give up your problems and to stop living being hurt. Lay down things that have hurt you and emotions that have tore you apart. Relax. Just live life to the best of ability.

and rest yourself 'neath the strenth of strings

He's saying to rest beneath all the problems and live above the hurt and hatred. Also, that everyone goes through it and needs to overcome the bad.

no voice can hope to hum

He says everyone goes through things. You can't live in a dignified life if you are not happy with yourself. The beat begins with a hum and then a song.

Writers many times are guitar players - tunes, song you strum (on guitar) , strength of strings (guitar again),

when you are so sad - no voice can hope to hum.

Not nature, just being quiet when you feel said, and let the guitar talk to you.

It's a religious metaphor.

Strings no voice can hope to hum, as in a melody made by God.
