Sure. He and the President are at fault since people didn't heed the evacuation orders until way too late.
Yep.
Why the hell didn't they stop that damn hurricane?

Well, I live in New Orleans and I think I have to disagree with you. It wasn't necessarily Nagin's fault that the Superdome failed, we had been using that as an evacuation route for years. Not only that, but if anything, the Govenor, Kathleen Blanco would be responsible. She has higher authority and it wasn't just New Orleans that was in trouble.
Not only that, but it was mainly the government that screwed us over. New Orleans has been trying to get the levees repaired since Johnson was in office. Congress even recognized that N.O couldn't withstand even a category 2 hurricane in the condition the levees were in pre-Katrina.
As much as Nagin pisses me off, there were plenty of other factories and many other people that deserves to be crucified more than Nagin.

Since the second person to respond referred to Ray Nagin as the mayor of Atlanta rather than New Orleans, it helps shine a light on the source of his lack of insight. Ignorance. There is enough blame to share between all levels of government; local, state and federal. The people of New Orleans re-elected him so they apparently feel confident in his determination to do something for the city. My cousin and his band and their families were displaced by Katrina. The bottom line is no one did enough except the corporations who had a hand out and are still collecting big off the misery of others.

1 man cant save millions of ppl he did what he could do. It was the presidents fault b/c he had the power to save more lives and he didn't b/c the ppl were black and "poor" ppl like the news said, and like everyone with sense knows. They're flying ppl to Iraq on the drop of a dime; but can't respond in an timely manner in America.

the previous answer is obviously from a dolt. yes the mayor of atlanta is reponsible. but it is a perfect example of what happens when liberals run a city. they voted in blacks and democrats cause thats what they wanted, and when they are incompetent then they cry. u saw how ny handled itself without help during their crises and then how those animals in new orleans did. case closed.

I'm not covering up for his mistakes, but I don't think he was truly prepared for the seriousness of that storm.
