I've wanted to have my belly button pierced for 8 years, now, but I've always hesitated because of the following reasons:

1. Pain involved.

2. Healing process and length of time.

3. Scarring.

4. What will my belly look like after pregnancy and it stretches my navel with the piercing's scar tissue?

Thank you,

Pepper.

Hey Pepper,
I might not be the BEST judge, because I've only had my belly button pierced since October, but I can answer a couple of questions. The pain factor? I was expecting so much more pain than it actually was. I have my nose pierced, and I thought my belly was going to hurt more, but it didn't. My piercer told me it was because a cartilage piercing hurts more, so if you got your ears pierced it's about the same amount of pain, at least it was for me. If you take care of it, the healing process takes about 8-10 weeks. I found that it developed crusties for maybe a month, and after that the only sign of healing was a red ring under the top bead. Most piercers will give you tips on cleaning the piercing, but if yours doesn't, I just soaked it in a saline sollution (one cup of boiling water mixed with 1/4 tsp of sea salt) you store it in your fridge, and twice a day fill a shot glass with it, heat it in the micro, and hold it on your stomach. Then use a Qtip, and work spectrojel, or dial through the piercing, rinse, and you're done. I have friends who have taken their piercings out with no problem of scarring, and one who's been through a pregnancy. I have to admit, once your stomach stretches for a pregnancy, the hole can rip if you take the jewlerry out too late. She took hers out at 4 months, and the scarring isn't bad. She had the jewel put back through, and you can barely see the marks.

Hope I helped,
Katryna

I've had my belly button pierced before and it actually doesn't hurt as bad as most people think. Just take a deep breath when he is ready to pierce your belly button. I thought my piercing on the cartilidge of my ear hurt more. The healing process for me wasn't that long, it was maybe a month. The first week tho you have to be careful especially if you sleep on your stomach. I don't have any children so I can't give you any advice on what your belly will look like. However, my friend who has 2 kids has her belly pierced and it didn't stretch her navel at all. I think as long as you work out your abs, you'll be fine.

There is no pain in piercing well at least for me
healing- just clean it well and if it is infected just put triple a and take out the stud or ring.
if it rips there will probably be a lit scar but if iit doesn't then it wont scar
and the pregnancy thing i don't know about
but dont worry about it.

I had my pierced before. It doesn't actually hurt that much when they pierce it. You do have to keep the area very clean and follow the postcare instructions you get when you have it pierced. I've taken mine out since my last child was born. There is minimal scarring. If you didn't already know I had it pierced, you wouldn't be able to tell.

It is not that painful and pregnancy did not even effect mine. Go for it!

My tongue is also pierced. That was a painful healing process, but the belly button was nothing.

When my aunt got pregnant, she had to take her belly button ring out and the hole closed up (it doesn't look any different than a closed up earring hole). Just make sure you go to someone who has done this a lot and/or is recommended by people you know.
