I get very squirmy when having my blood drawn also. When walking in the room I pick something out and focus on it. I also turn my head away from the person doing it and my arm. If you have a cell phone you might hold it in your opposite hand and flip through pictures or music or a game. It also helps if the person drawing your blood will talk to you. Then it will be over and done before you know it.
Good Luck!!

Yes, I too, hate needles. Close your eyes. Go ahead- close your eyes. Then, count to 20, normally. Done. Now then, the thing I hate the most is the stick which isn't really even that bad. Now, count to 2. Stick is over! Really, it just lasts such a short time. I have to have my blood tested every 8 weeks so I had to think about some manageable technics to deal with it. Hope I helped!

Something that works for me is to have an object with me that may be a ring or bracelet with a saying or a stone of some significance in my pocket. When I encounter the feared event, in your case the needles, I start looking at and/or feeling the object and concentrate my thoughts on it and what I have made it represent to me. It focuses, consumes and redirects my thoughts. I have also tried counting forwards or backwards from a large number and found that the taxes me mentally enough to keep my mind off of something else. Another method that has worked for me is picturing a favorite place that relaxes me, in my case a warm, sandy beach with water splashing up over my feet.
I can also picture this and begin to count backwards and this is effective to relax.

I am the same way!!! Usually if you tell them ahead of time they will lie you down when they draw blood. It also helps if you look in the other direction. You could always take some kind of medicine to calm the nerves.

what helps me is, i never look at the needle, the whole time i face the opposite direction...either drum up a conversation with the nurse the whole time so u never have moment to really think about it, or keep ur eyes closed, focus on pleasant thoughts and BREATHE. It'll be over very quickly.

I just take a couple of deep breaths and turn my head the opposite way of getting the shot. I also try to think of something pleasant or hum a song in my head. It works for me. I hate shots too.

Oh look...another question about blood tests. With an identical avatar to the person who posted the question here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AqJxW2ZJ.C.J4opV858ylizzy6IX?qid=20061210173414AAKSxsi
And all of the questions on both posting IDs have to do with blood tests, gyno exams, and bowel crap (pun intended). I'll be darned.
Some people get off on the dumbest things.

Meditate and focus on a positive outcome. Expect a positive outcome. Focus on your breathing, slow and steady. Also check this out--

Read a poster that's on the wall in the office over and over. It will be over quick.
