Teachers are expected, by American society, to be role models for the children who are placed in their care. State and Federal Education Departments require teachers to uphold the "laws of the land", forfeiting their teaching credentials if they do not.

As long as marijuana is considered an illegal substance in the United States, it is not legal for teachers, or anyone else, to smoke, grow, or distribute "pot".

Are there teachers who smoke "pot"? Yes. Are there priests, ministers of all faiths who smoke "pot"? Yes. Are their policemen, firefighters, doctors, nurses, lawyers, etc., who smoke "pot"? Yes. Is it "okay"? In my opinion, no; however, I'm positive those who are illegally using, growing, or distributing are capable of justifying their actions in their own mind.

As a teacher, I don't want to lose my certification, the privilege of being able to teach, or face the possibility of a felony conviction that might jeopardize me ever getting any job.

Only if your school knows about it, your parents know about it, and everything thinks it is just fine.

Otherwise, it is still illegal, so you know exactly what lesson that teacher is giving you.

Also that teacher must go to a dealer to get the drugs. Someday the police will follow the teacher and both dealer and drug user will answer that question to the police.

Feel better now?

GOD bless.

I don't really think so. Pot is still an illegal substance. If a teacher is arrested and found guilty of using an illegal substance, the school board may fire them and I believe the Dept. of Ed. may revoke their teaching certificate.

It is according to whether they expect to remain certified to teach or not. Moral behavior is the main reason that most educators are ever removed from certification by their respective state(s). Have a GrEaT HoLiDaY!!

If the teacher keeps his or her personal business away from the job then it shouldn't be an issue.

It's NOT okay if the teacher's use violates the law. It certainly violates school law.
