I heard that small amounts of tuna is okay. Shellfish and a few other fish contain mercury and is the reason for concern. Swordfish as well. Best thing to do is to talk to your doctor if you are concerned.

As long as they're cooked.

Lots of people will answer this and tell you NO, but that's just not true. Women in my area (extreme south Louisiana) eat seafood (cooked and raw!) through their entire pregnancies and their babies are born fine. If there was a problem with eating seafood I would have heard about it firsthand by now.

However, you SHOULD avoid all canned fish and seafood. Simply because tuna and other commonly canned fish are the types which are high in mercury, and they might (low chance but possible) pick up contaminants from the metal in the cans. I'd avoid it just to be safe. So if you're craving oysters make sure they're fresh or frozen, not out of a can (those are generally NOT fresh enough to be eating, and may have picked up contaminants via the canning process).

Find yourself some FRESH oysters and have a ball! A great way to cook them is in a little butter with some garlic salt. My mother ate raw oysters many times during both her pregnancies. However, those had been caught near our home and were very fresh. I wouldn't recommend it if you're getting frozen or they've been shipped inland.

I found this on babycenter.com...

...If you enjoy seafood and tend to eat a lot of it (12 ounces or more a week), you can do so without much worry by choosing varieties that are relatively pollutant-free: Shrimp, scallops, flounder, sole, clams, oysters, tilapia, catfish, whitefish, sardines, crayfish, king crab, and croaker. Also vary the types of fish you eat from this list so that you have no more than one serving of any particular kind during the course of a week.

I hope that helps...I pasted the link to the page below b/c there is a lot more information about fish and what's okay to eat.

I wouldn't risk eating oysters, unless they are well cooked, I definatly wouldn't eat them raw. They can carry bacteria and other diseases, that you wouldn't want to make you sick. Also, oysters can carry hepatitis. If you get hepatitis when you're pregnant, you'll probably get sicker than you would otherwise. But acute hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C are usually not transmitted across the placenta to the baby.
