Well, there is one that I bet would surprise a few folks. Take a look online for "Maple Syrup Urine Disease." Its technical name is BCKAD deficiency. It's an inborn error of amino acid metabolism, where the enzyme that properly processes the branched chain amino acids (leucine, isoleucine and valine) is either absent, minimal or altered. It requires a special low protein diet, and in some cases a liver transplant. It's very common among Mennonites and Amish, and a kind doctor by the name of Holmes Morton founded the Clinic for Special Children in Pennsylvania to help the families dealing with that and other disorders.

The reason it's called Maple Syrup Urine Disease is due to its most obvious symptom. A metabolite of one of the amino acids builds up in the body, making the urine and other bodily secretions take on a sugary sweet smell that is similar to maple syrup.
