I would say a golden retriever as they are less likely to take control of your family and be obsessive with certain family members.

I have a Golden Retriever and four other siblings. The dog puts up with anything, my three-year-old sister will sit on her, pull her ears, put her hands in her mouth and she just sits there and takes it and, when it's over, shakes herself off and runs off to find some attention! She's a good dog, sometimes annoying, but a good dog.
Huskies are my all-time favorite, although I've never owned one personally. I think Golden Retrievers are better family pets, though.

Depends on your family. Huskies are VERY high energy. Remember, they were bred to pull sleds for miles in the freezing cold. They require a lot of exercise and tend to be diggers and escape artists. Golden Retrievers are also somewhat high energy dogs, as they were bred to hunt, but aren't usually quite as stubborn as a husky. If this is to be your family's first dog, I would go with the golden, but make sure you meet the puppy's parents if possible. If the parents are hyper and stupid, thats what you'll be getting in your puppy, too.

It depends on your family. I would try to find a breeder in your area who would let you come visit their kennels. Individual personality of every member of your family play a big role in dog selection that cannot be assessed on line. Both are wonderful dogs, and can flourish in the right family. I grew up with a Malamute and neighboring Huskies. Our family did great with them and would have hated a Golden Retreiver. On the other hand, I know many a family who loves their Goldens. I hope you have fun figuring out which will do best with your family.

Golden Retriever:
These are lovable, well-mannered, intelligent dogs with a great charm. They are easily trained, and always patient and gentle with children. Loyal, confident, sweet and eager to please. It is active, loving and an outstanding family dog. Golden Retrievers enjoy pleasing their masters, so obedience training can be fun. They excel in obedience competitions. Friendly with everyone, including other dogs, the Golden Retriever has very little, if any, guarding instincts. While unlikely to attack, Goldens make good watchdogs, loudly signaling a stranger's approach. This breed needs to be around people to be happy. If isolated from human contact, or left alone for long periods of time, the Golden Retriever may become mischievous. They can be over-exuberant and distractible. Some of the Golden's talents are hunting, tracking, retrieving, narcotics detection, agility, competitive obedience, and performing tricks. These dogs also love to swim. This breed will do okay in an apartment if sufficiently exercised. They are moderately active indoors and will do best with at least a medium to large yard.
Husky:
These dogs are gentle and playful, but willful and mischievous. This cheerful dog is very fond of his or her family. A puppy at heart, they are clever, sociable and loving, easy-going and docile. Though they do generally have a lot of energy, especially as puppies. Good with children and friendly with strangers, they are not watchdogs, for they bark little and love everyone. Huskies are very intelligent and trainable, but they have a mind of their own and will only obey a command if they see the point. Training takes patience, consistency and an understanding of the Arctic dog character. This dog will take advantage if he can. Huskies make an excellent jogging companion, as long as it is not too hot. Huskies may be difficult to housebreak. This breed likes to howl and gets bored easily. They do not like to be left alone, so if this is the breed for you, you may want to consider having two. A lonely Husky can be very destructive. Remember that the Husky is a sled dog in heart and soul. They are good with other pets if they are raised with them from puppyhood. Huskies are thrifty eaters and need less food than you might expect. This breed likes to roam. Siberian Huskies can make wonderful companions for people who are aware of what to expect from these beautiful and intelligent animals. Although there are 'exceptions to every rule', there are a number of breed characteristics that are generally present among members of this arctic breed. This is not meant to be a comprehensive list, as even the top breeders in the country will tell you that they learn something new about their dogs every day! They are not usually recommended for apartments, however they can live in apartments if well trained and properly exercised. Siberian Huskies are very active indoors and do best with a fenced-in large yard. Because of their heavy coats, these dogs prefer cool climates. One has to use common sense with respect to maintaining them in the heat by providing adequate shade and air conditioning. This breed prefers to live in packs.
Which one is right for you? I really hope this helped!!!!!

A golden retriever, far and away. Huskies are much more difficult to look after, train and socialise and they prefer the company of other huskies to humans.
