I don't believe in superstition / bad luck. A broken mirror is simply a piece of glass that has been painted on the back to reflect a persons reflection. It breaks? No different than a broken window or drinking glass. Walk under a ladder? Only pieces of wood framed to support a person climbing. A four leaf clover...simply a leaf of nature that reminds a person to keep their 'hope / dreams' alive. Any thing can remind a person to keep their hope alive...a special pebble, piece of yarn, etc. I don't get the superstition issue of concern. Especially in this year 2006. Want to enlighten me ?

i think people like to keep those tales around, because it gives them something to say, and they are insecure about letting go, those that perhaps have nothing, you perhaps have faith, in a Higher Power, Napoleon said he did not believe in luck, look up this word in different languages, you will find some to them to be comical, as to not having the same meaning at all

If you are raised by a superstition parent then even if it is 2006 some of it lingers. I wasn't raised to be afraid of black cats or ladders (unless they fall on you when you are walking under them) or mirrors, but I do have wind chimes hung at all outside doorways (to keep out the evil spirits). Why take the chance. Besides, it makes me feel better.

There is no such thing as good or bad luck, just differing levels of probability.

I think superstition came about because some people are just too dumb or rude to figure out how to behave properly. Think about it. When you are standing on a ladder, do you want someone to walk under it? No way! Isn't it annoying when people spill the salt or sit in front of the tv? One easy way of getting rid of stupid behaviour is to scare stupid people into believing that bad things will happen to them if they behave wrongly. I know it pisses me off when people break mirrors.
