I have met many alcoholics or poeple that drink strong liquors more than once a day, and none of them like cakes, candy and other sweets. Is there a correlation between the two?

Actually when not drinking Alcoholics will crave sweets! They may not eat sweets of any kind when drinking. But when they can not drink, are trying to quit or have Alcohol with drawl most alcoholics will crave sweets constantly. I learned this when I was working at a Mental Health center. And some of our patients were alcoholics. The main reason they crave sweets is that Alcohol actually contains a high level of sugar. More so with Liquors than beer. If you ever go to an AA meeting. You would notice plenty of sweet snacks and treats laid out.

I'm a heavy drinker, but when I take a month off or something every once in awhile, I don't crave sweets. In general, I feel my appetite is way better, but not necessarily geared towards anything in particular. I think this statement is way too generalized that "all" alcoholics crave sugar when they aren't drinking. Think of every single space on the correlation scale of alcohol to sugar, and there are people on every single scale of it.

Many active drinkers I knew liked sweets.....

....and have you ever seen folks in rehabs?? or in a lot of AA/other allied 12-step meetings, if a candy bowl or donut box goes around??? Looks like a feeding frenzy on the Discovery Channel, minus the blood (grin)....

Twenty-five people in a rehab unit can really do a number on a five-pound bag of hard candy in a day or so!---it seems that sugar helps, when coping with cravings....

Where did u get that idea? I'm alcoholic and I love sweet things. Well, in moderation anyway. It's true that I don't like sweet mixers with my booze, but sweet food, yeah, bring it on mate, lol!

i guess they are just old..once you reach a certain age, certain sweets don't attract you as they once did. or maybe the liquor just ate away their taste buds...for sweets lol its like brushing your teeth with toothpase and then eating soemthing sour...weird taste. ever tried it?

I don't know. I love both. My favorite drinks are sweet liquers. I cannot stand dry drinks (wine and beer).
