you can change the page layout to landscape and type in 2 columns or when you print you can change your print options to print 2 pages per each sheet. If your printer has this option.
If you do the 2 column one though you have to be able to print on both side of the paper, most printers don't do this. Then you have to set the print options to print like only the odd pages and then put them back through to print only the even pages on the other side. There are other options too. Like you could use a Works publisher program or something like that then the templates do it automatically.

In Microsft Word you can set the number of Columns to 1, 2, or 3. There is a button on your toolbar. If you launch the help feature of Microsoft Word and type in keyword columns you'll get exact instructions. The change is instantaneous so you can go between Column settings.

If you are talking about 1 side of the paper, then the other answers give you the idea.

However, if you are talking about 2 sides of the paper, then you need either a double side printer OR print odd pages, reinstall the paper and print even pages on the other side.

In word you select file->Page Setup. In there you should be able to select the multiple pages option and switch this to book fold or 2 pages landscape. It may be slightly different for different word versions, but it will be in page setup somewhere.

first, you change your layout to have two columns instead of 1, then when you print, change the setting to landscape.

I don't know a way of doing it with Word, although I have done it with Publisher.
