Just a thought. I haven't completely thought this through yet. What if in the cities they built million dollar properties next to low cost properties. Like your next door neighbor or the apartment next to you would be poor. and next to him would be a rich person. Perhaps this would help reduce prejudice among the classes. Because then they would be talking about their neighbors. I think it could work. The question is? is it possible and has it been tried before. I heard it is like this in Delhi and Shanghai. what are your thoughts.

Why does everyone assume its the rich that are the problem? Last I checked the rich aren't the ones committing the majority of robberies, car jackings, rapes, and murders. Oh but I forgot, the poor only do those bad things because the rich force them to it silly me, I thought people had free will and were responsible for their own lives. Hate to break it to you but if your poor in the US of A its a character flaw, they're not victims of circumstances.

From personal experience I'm someone you grew up dirt poor as a kid but both my parents worked extremely hard and slowly but surely became "rich" and let me tell you we did not have a problem living next to "poor" people but poor people sure did have a problem with us. They wouldn't talk to us and would vandalize our property because according to them we thought we were too good for them, or what did it matter we could afford to replace what they stole or destroyed. Like I said, if your poor you have serious character flaws, who would want to live next to people like that. I understand completely why the rich move on.

Just a little food for thought.

How would living next door to a millionaire reduce prejudice?

The truly rich and the truly poor lifestyles do not intersect. They do not shop at the same stores. They do not go to the same places on vacation. They do not drive similar cars. Their kids do not go to the same schools. Pretty good chance they do not worship in the same church, synagogue, mosque, etc.

The rich person would roll right by his poor neighbor walking home from work. The poor neighbor could only watch as his rich neighbor goes off on to work in his car that is worth more than the house he is living in.

If the rich and the poor lived in the same neighborhood, they would need to have other things in common besides living in the same neighborhood.

I am going to keep checking on other answers that come in. I am interesed in what the other Yahoo Answer folks have to say to this question ...

You should GET points for asking such a thought provoking question.

Why in the world would the rich want to move in or around the poor. The rich have money a different class that means that stores that sell to the rich would move in that means the poor would have to move our,no wal-marts or k- marts. The poor would be stealing from the rich, the rich children could not go outside they would get there lunch money taken away. The poor are just poor,75%will never get out.You can give 75%of the poor people money a lot of money come back in 6 months they will be broke and poor again, the things they bought will be broken down or torn up or be stolen.I have seen it with my two eyes.I don't think it will work.

The poor would be jealous and resentful of their rich neighbors and the rich would be condescending and snobby to their poor neighbors. Or the rich would be jealous and intrigued by their poor neighbors simple happiness and the poor would act morally superior and haughty towards their rich neighbors. I like your idea but I really don't think it will ever work; people are too wary of those that are different. Poor people just don't understand rich people while rich people just don't understand poor people and people fear what they don't understand. Fear breeds hatred and hatred forms groups like the Nazis and the KKK; it's human nature. I envy your idealism.

Not sure what country you live in, but here in the USA, I doubt that would work. Most of the people holding high government and upper corporate positions come from high-income families that have lost total sight of middle or lower income people. The farther away they can put themselves and their multi-million dollar incomes and stock investments the better for them, in their eyes. The rich are riding on our labors so they don't want to eliminate our ever growing middle and lower income population.

If he's there for the sake of a wealthy abode, then he might actually help the abuse because of the fact he needs to.

well most rich people are snob's because they have money,
so it would make it rough on the poor, also the poor would allways have to be tormented by watching the rich allways buying things. if the rich helped the poor, it would be allright.
seems like most rich people, the more they get, the more they want.but it could be bad for the rich to, because the poor would
pbobley rob them.
