There really isn't any one that is better then another. None of them work as well as what the doctor uses. If you want to get one, check with maternity or baby shops. They may carry a variety and be able to tell you what would be the best for you. It won't hurt your baby to use them. They wouldn't sell them if they would hurt you or your baby.

Better not to buy one. There is some indication of lower birth weight in babies scanned frequently with ultrasound. Earlier studies suggested possible problems but no proven danger. However we know dopplar subjects baby to continuous ultrasound while listening (scans only omit ultrasound radiation 1 1/100th of the time and read echos 99/100ths of the time). If you look for an acoustically amplified stethescope, could hear the baby without using ultrasound.

I've found that the machines that you can buy OTC aren't very effective. I'm not sure if they sell Dr. quality doppler machines to the general public.
