I realise that this isn't the ideal site for a serious and sensible question, but I'm going to take the risk of asking one anyway. I just wondered if anyone has personal stories of finding a missing friend/relative safe and sound, years after their initial disappearance.

The reason I ask is because I lost a very close friend... it's been 10 years. It's been almost 11 years since Mel disappeared. We didn't live far from one another, I should have been with her the night she went missing, but was ill so I couldn't go. Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever stop kicking myself for not having been there to stop whatever it was that happened.

I don't think we're going to find Mel now, it's been too long, but it's still very difficult to stop hoping. I never found out what happened but I'm determined to work it out somehow, for the sake of her poor family if nothing else.

Here's the background. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/2842645.stm

Does anyone have any happy endings they can tell me about in a similar case?
