In my area of the SF Peninsula, mature trees are protected. This is true in Ashland Oregon as well. One must get a permit to remove mature trees and often permits to build require that existing trees be accommodated. You may want to check with local authorities before proceeding.

Yes although it won't fetch you much money. Why not sell the trees as is? Ask around if anyone wants full grown pin oaks. Estates, university campuses, rich homeowners, etc. They are relatively easy to move (as far as trees go) but make sure you get an insured arborist to do the job.

you may have a hard time finding someone to cut them down for free, especially if there's buildings close by. We just had someone cut 2 trees down from our yard and charged us a few hundred to cut them down and then wanted more money if we wanted them to take the wood with them. We ended up just giving the wood away to a friend who wanted to use it for his wood stove.
Good Luck

You can check your local yellow pages or newspaper even. My community is small and I have seen ads before from people offering to 'buy' timber from property.

Yes, It depends on the tree in Michigan. I can't speak for the laws in other states.
