How did it affect them!? They're all dead, gone, that's how. latest estimates, over 2 million, gone! The funny thing is that, the old guard ready to hack their way to supremacy and world domination now realize that a capitalistic economy is the best system going!!!! Viet Nam is like the forth or fifth fastest growing economy in the world with a limited free economy, lol, go figure. That idealistic agrarian economy of growing for the masses and keeping everything simple and equality for the masses, oops, we made a mistake on that one. They realize that when people have nothing to look forward to, they tend to do nothing to get there. That's why most present day real communist countries are intellectually oppressive, because they suck and people will do anything to get out of them. but we're in a different world now, now it's not the government of men by men, now its the will of god and the faithful that will change things for the worse. Funny, we're the smartest(allegedly) species on the planet and we just keep making the same mistakes. We keep renaming "power and authority" with evermore unique concepts.

The Vietnam War was a battle in the Cold War between the USA and the USSR! The Communists in control of the North (and supported by the USSR and the PRC) wanted to impose a command economy on the whole country, and spread it across the rest of Southeast Asia as well. Per America's Containment policy the US was bound to oppose such a takeover, and committed economic and military aid to the South. When we thought that wasn't enough we deployed troops (probably a mistake). For the first years after the Communist victory in 1975 the Communist command economy was a disaster for the reunited country. The Communists murdered upwards to 5,000,000 people in SEA imposing it. When the USSR fell the Vietnamese Communists adapted a form of free-market economy like their neighbors, the PRC, and have been doing much better economically every since. They are still a police state and allow no opposition to their rule.

I remember that right after the north took over the south there was an unbelievable blood bath as the commies took revenge on everyone they thought had cooperated with the USA or the South govt. I've heard figure of a million or more dead but I can't quote a source.

My co workers family lost their farm their animals and his father to the communist after the John Kerry's friends had us cut and run. they came down took the animals and while his father was trying to keep them from taking his cow they raped his mom and then his sister and after that killed his father. Jane Fonda was so right we had no reason to keep communism out of southern Vietnam.
