I have found in my bathroom shower heads and kitchen sink this white stuff develops. It is in a solid form and has no certain odor.

Likely a buildup of calcium due to hard water. It can be removed easily by soaking the shower head in CLR. You may need a water softener in your home.

Most likely it is calcium buildup. It is not serious, just tougher to clean. If your shower head becomes clogged, get some CLR and pour into a cup big enough to stick your shower head into, then hold it up to your shower head and allow it to soak for a minute. Then turn on to rinse out! There are specific cleaners available at your local Wal-Mart, etc for cleaning off the reside in your tub, shower, etc.

You can also ELIMINATE the issue by getting a water softener installed. It will prevent the build up and save appliances that use water from the buildup (washer, dishwashers, water heaters, etc)

White stuff is lime. Get a plastic bag , half full of vinegar & tape it overnight on shower head over night. The acid will disolve the lime. This method is easier than taking the whole head off.

Calcium or lime. Put some CLR or Lime Away in a container of some sort and hold it up to the shower head for a minute or so. It should clear it up right away.

It is mineral buildup. Try rinsing the shower head in vinegar, or go to the hardware store and get that 1-2-3 Lime away stuff.

It is calcium...it develops over time from the "hard water" coming out of your pipes. It is annoying in that it clogs fixtures over time and leaves a lovely residue over dishes when you try to clean them.

Installing a water softener would solve this problem...but it is costly.

I know because I have the same issue.

in the case of hard water it would be calcium carbonate if you install a water softening system from your local hardware store this should eliminate the problem by replacing the minerals with salts which are far less likely to build up like minerals do and can be maintained cheaply and easily
