Ok, we gave him a couple years, and I think it's obvious he can't read defense, is too tentative in the pocket, and pretty much has no idea what he's doing. Is it time to end his suffering and draft a new QB this year?

I don't think so. It can take many years for a QB to learn to read defenses well and make good decisions on the field. Take hall of fame QB troy aikman for example...his first season, he was absolutely horrible (just like smith was). in his second season, aikman did a little better but was still a lower tier qb (just like smith). it wasn't until his third year that he really came into his own

Definitely not. You need to give him next year, at the least. Developing a QB takes time, and it doesn't look pretty while it's happening. You do understand that any rookie would likely spend his first year struggling to get it done? No one coming out this year is anywhere near as good as Leinart or Young...

well, he definatly isn't good, but I would give him just one more year. At least he is better than last year, I think next year he could play like pennington.
