It was during the 2000 election. I am 50 years old and had voted a number of times without putting much effort into it. I decided it was time to inform myself before voting. What I found was an appalling look at party politics. I was amazed to see how many people just voted for their own party regardless of the issues or the qualification of the candidate. From that time on, I have insisted that my kids be informed before voting and to urge others to do the same.

For me, I gained the most interest in politics when I read George F. Will's book, published in 1987, "The New Season."

I turned 21 in basic training in 1966. I went to Vietnam in 12/67. I've never voted for a Republican in my life, and never will. All Democrat, all he time. The neocons are not conservative. If they were, we wouldn't have an 8.5 trillion dollar national debt. They are all about Capitalism. Clinton was more conservative than Bush. That's a fact.

I followed it off and on starting with Clinton's impeachment (gawd, I was young then....) and really started following it in 2000 with the election.
Now I'm older, wiser, and keep a copy of the Constitution around and know it front to back, along with the Declaration and Articles.

Birth. My family has always been active in politics. If you don't serve your country on any level, you really don't have the right to the freedoms our country allows you to have.

Birth. Dad's job depended on elections and he always fostered my involvement. I love campaigns and elections, presidential and midterm election years are my favorite times. It's like Christmas for me. Yeah, I know I'm warped beyond reason.

When I was in school and Bush Clinton and Perot were running for office and I saw how hypocritical the people at my school were. They wanted Bush to win for the one reason that he was against abortion. No more thought to it than that. I thought that was wrong.
