Hi,
I have "Beautyberry" bushes in my yard.
No. IL , zone 5
They develop clusters of purple berries around the branches by end of summer.
These bushes are a native of and to the southeastern United States.
Quite hardy, in the spring you can cut them back to almost the ground, and they will grow back to about 4ft tall.
The berries last from fall through winter and the birds do like them.
They are pleasing to the eye.
I bought mine from Parks Seeds, check out their website listed below.
The prices are real reasonable, I have 8 of the bushes, for 3 years now.
Each year they come back bigger and prettier.
Hope this helps,
Dave

Pyracantha, firethorn, is a very easy shrub to grow in most areas. It produces many red berries highly favored by birds.

Celtis occidentalis is loved by birds (northern hackberry).

Also mountain ash (Sorbus sp), cotoneaster, and Viburnum sp (highbush cranberry).
Other good choices are buffaloberry and seabuckthorn.

All of these will tolerate cold winters.
