The only common plants I know of are sunflowers. Why don't you just put up a box squirrel feeder full of peanuts on any wooden post on each side of your yard. The kind with the lid they have to open. Otherwise jays will eat all of the peanuts. You really need more than one because they don't like to share. I get up to 5 squirrels at a time so I've taken to filling a bird feeder on the porch rail full of sunflower seed so at least 3 of them can eat at on time. They are a blast to watch.

There is a pecan tree and a very large oak tree in my yard. I have more squirrels than I ever wanted. Sometimes cats will kill them for a meal. The other thing squirrels seem to like is the insulation on the telephone wires outside.
Remember, squirrels like nuts and corn. You can get a feeder and fill it with corn or you can get dried corn on the cob and put it on a feeder that has a spike to hold the cob. (This is something you can probably make.)

For the other people posting about the squirrels attacking the birdfeeders instead dump the seed in your backyard somewhere for the birds to get on the ground. We feed the birds everymorning, and then throw a few handfuls of peanuts out for the squirrels. If you do it everyday you will have a pretty good balance and your critters will be happy.

i dont know why you want more squirrels around, they are pests. i have had my electrical wiring to my house chewed in half by them and my cable wire. they raid my birdfeeders. chew up my garden, and eat holes in my apples on my tree before they are even ripe. wish you lived here i would give you all you wanted of them. i cant count how many bird feeders i replaced until i bought the squirrel prove feeders. with a door that closes on the food when something heavier than a birds tries to eat from it. you must like the little boogers more than a lot of us do out here. just get you a oak tree started or a walnut tree and you will have more squirrels than you would know what to do with. also did you know that they will eat eggs and baby birds in the nest. and occasionally a grown bird if they can catch it.

I am unsure as to plants and such...but I added two squirrel feeders in my yard. I did this as I had noticed a random squirrel here and there outside my computerroom window. So I put out a couple of feeders (food is cheap and easy to find). Now I found that I have about 6-8 squirrels running about. And they are there on a daily basis.

Squirrels can be territorial so you may not get too many. They like freshly dug earth to dig in even if its in pots especially if there are bulbs in them. Feeders are good but they also like food scraps put them in a container and don't leave out at night or you might get rats too. Roast potatoes are a fav but most nuts will do. DO NOT feed or encourage them near the to house they are inquisitive and will come in they are also aggressive if cornered. As for plants unless they are tall and robust it wont matter obviously a nut tree would be good.

We've got four greys and the tamest of them bangs on the window with her teeth if they run out of groundnuts. They take about a pound of those a day, but they like peanuts, dried banana, sunflower seeds, maize, and broad beans too. In addition to which they love white bread and Jacob's cream crackers.
If you want to attract them make sure there's plenty of high perches for them to eat on. Ours sit on the bird table, the fence, and trees at the back. Don't be too tidy with fallen leaves as they gather them for drays, and if you can get hold of any straw put it in a quiet corner and they'll take that too.
Squirrels build and mantain several drays at once but always as close as they dare to a major food source. Sometimes you will not see them for a couple of days as they like to eat until they're full and then sleep it off. Squirrels come at any time of day but they aren't keen on cold and so if it's a particularly cold day they'll wait until the sun has warmed it off a bit.
Water is extremely important and you need to put a good supply of fresh water out and change it daily. Make it easily accessible so that they can see it. We have five containers, holding about a pint each for birds and squirrels. It has to be near the food supply too otherwise they'll forage elsewhere.
Squirrels eat eggs too, but don't give them too many too often as it doesn't do them good if they overeat on eggs.
In summer if you have sunflowers you will attract both birds and squirrels. We go through 10 pounds of sunflower seeds a month between them.

If you want to attract squirrels put up a feeder with dried corn cobs on it or put out some bird feed in a cheap feeder that the squirrels can get into. They also love pine cones, but you may not like all the pine needles that drop and also, they can cause other plants to die because of their sap.

They sure are cute little critters they love peanuts in their shells but be careful if they decide to move into your house you might not like it they can do a damage like you would never believe They moved into my attic chewed up my wiring One fell between the walls and died there we had a bad smell for days until we found out the source we had to open up the wall to remove the body. We also had to have an electrician to do some rewiring so think about it before you invite more of them

Discourage cats from wandering into your garden. Then buy £10 worth of daffodil bulbs and lay them on the lawn. Squirrels cannot resist them!
