The premise of the essay is:
Describe a significant setback, challenge or opportunity in your life and the impact that it has had on you.

Do I write it as a personal narrative then?

Write it in the first person... When I was 15 ....

Use your voice. Don't try to sound like someone else. Try to advance the essay with each sentence and use the topic to show how your character, tenacity, perseverence, etc. Good luck!

Yes, the key word here being, personal. Use "I." The main thing they look for is not acutally your experience, but your writing style. Make POSITIVE there are 0 grammatical mistakes!!!!!!!!!! Make sure your essay sounds like you, like a story, not a paper.

YES!!! The admissions committee wants to understand who you are and how you deal with challenges (as college will present MANY challenges). They want to know how you grow and learn from the challenges that are put before you.
