by not opening your mouth. try making small talk. ask the guy about his wife.
you need to have your cooling system pressure checked. that's how you find leaks, by pressurizing the coolant and seeing where it sprays out.
if stuff doesn't work in the rain then clean the electrics.

Tell them you want to have you coolant system leak checked and pressure checked. Ask them to make sure to double check the hoses and cap.
Tell them to trouble shoot the window with an estimate on the repair. This is going to cost you around $50 to $75 just to check out, so be prepared.
The best way not to get screwed is to call around for pricing on both items. No harm in getting a 2nd opinion when you are about to spend your money.
The window is going to be tough to tie a mechanic down on until you know what is wrong, but after you know, it wouldn't be hard to call around and ask how much a mechanic would charge to do the same job.
Hope this helps.

You are a women, therefore you know nothing about cars and will be at the mercy of the mechanic. Or at least that's what they want us to think. Make sure you tell them you want to keep the old parts if they have to replace anything, that way they can't just tell you they're doing something they aren't doing. Go to a reputable shop. But be ready to get screwed. They see a woman coming and we don't stand a chance. Maybe take a guy along with you.

You explained the service that you need very well. The best way to seem like a savvy customer is to ask him to show you the leaking, the cracks, the worn belts, etc. that he will repair or replace in the service to your car. I also had a mechanic that used to give me the old part to show me the problem and to take if I wanted to. To be sure that he's not inflating his prices or something, you'd probably have to take your car to at least one other mechanic for the same diagnostic review and assessment of repairs to be done -- and then, compare quotes. Hopefully, your mechanic comes with some references or a word-of-mouth referal for you to figure out what kind of businessman he is.

either way if you dont do it yourself you will spend alot of money.
If you dont know what you are talking about dont try to look like you do because they will be able to tell. Make sure you take in everything he tells you, Make sure you have him point out the leaks to you. Have him point out where the problems are with the window.
Then take the car to another mechanic and have him do the same and then compare the results.
Always get a second opinion.

Just go in there, tell them exactly what you want. If you have doubts about the price they quote then get a guy friend to go in and get another quote for you and compare notes and then go from there.

Can't you look at it when it's running and see the leak? You can ask autozone for some hints also. Any shop is a ripoff, that's why i do my own work.

first of all don't go to any cheap places like midas, etc. go to the dealer if you can afford it. if not, ask some people you know to reccomend mechanics that they've had good expierence with. once you find a good technician you don't really have to worry about how you explain your problem to him.

Don't give him any BS (he knows and you don't) since you will only prove to him that you are stupid, and see at least two mechanics.
What is wrong with asking them exactly the way you stated it in your question?
