The common name for Gazania seems to be Gazania.
You never hear anyone call them anything else and when I checked my garden reference book they had no common name listing either.

Why? Thiis is one of those instances when the correct generic scientific name is readily understood. What do you gain by digging up soem obscure vernacularf name, which would probably be in Xhosa.
Stick with the Latin, and keep it simple!
