How do I make sure my famiy doesn't get control over my funeral arrangements and my friend does?

First, you can actually make all of your own funeral arrangements, you can contact the funeral home that you wish to use and they will assist you in making the arrangements and keep a record, you can go back and make changes as you wish....and pre pay too. You can also make a will, with an attorney to ensure that your wishes are as you want after your death. Give a letter to your friend, including the name of the attorney to be contacted asap after your death.

Well, most funeral homes have an option where you make pre-death arrangements. You don't pay for your funeral, but you plan every part of it before you die. Any make sure your family know you've done this and what your wishes are. There are also legal documents that you can have prepared by an attorney to insure that your wishes are followed. I believe it's some type of power of attorney (durable--I'm not sure). Make sure your friend has your authorization to be in the room with you in case you need medical care. I'm not sure how that works with the HIPPA (sp) law.

I would recommend calling a funeral home and making your arrangements ahead of time. Word from the wise, (I have seen this many times) make sure your friend is aware of your wishes and where you want to go, becasuse most wills are not read until a week or so after the death, no one busts out the will at the moment of death, therefore putting it in your will is sometimes moot. You can actually pre-arrange your funeral if you're that worried about it. Just find a funeral director and work something out. You can even pay for it in advance so that your family won't have to worry about it.
I would pre-arrange it if I was in your shoes.

you can preplan it with the local funeral home, ( even have it prepaid,) my wife and I already have ours all planed, spaces paid for and so on.
in your will you can specify all of what you want done, and appoint an administer of the will that would follow your desires.

It's not against the law to die - yet. Why bother with funeral arrangements, let the dead take care of the dead.
