Because alot of the time that is all that the players have on underneath their uni's. Most players nowadays do not wear hip and thigh pads, thus they don't wear a traditional girdle.

Well to be honest with you... I don't konw. It is possible they are wearing a gurdle underneath... Then Again I never really bothered looking.
