The quote appears often on Google (any halfwit can see that, Finkenned) but where did George write it? This is a test.

The quote attributed to Orwell is "At fifty everyone has the face he deserves." Or sometimes, "At fifty a man has the face he deserves." The latter, somehow seems more likely. He is supposed to have written this in his notebook shortly before he died. The quote, therefore, may not appear in any of his published works.

It was a final entry in his (1903-1950) notebooks, shame he didn't make 50 himself, he died at 46 of TB.

The quote always reminds me of W. H. Auden's comment about his face:
'my face looks like a wedding-cake left out in the rain'.
